This year I have been focussing on humour and tragedy and how they are so closely linked.  My contextual study is on how artists use humour as a panacea for tragedic circumstances, for instance this is the case in black humour which arose out of the horror of World War one.  I started off looking at clowns as they seem to epitomise the humour/tragic conflict and came across mime artist Marcel Marceau. I found a photo of him containing three different views of his face.  I made each face out of wire and attached the eyes to the side of the face but left the nose and mouth free to move at will by attaching them only by a wire.  The result is three mobiles held up by wire that move around in the air seeming to change facial emotions as they twist and turn.  Above are photographs of the finished pieces.        http://www.jspacenews.com/actions-speak-louder-words-life-marcel-marceau/
