Life Begins Outside The Box

climate change and disability

‘No way forward’ my entry for the Dac competition

The remit for this competition was about disabled justice and climate justice, a very difficult problem. I tried to show the difficulties disabled people and the climate will face in the future as opposed to the wealthy who can leave the planet by a space ship. The flag on the back of the wheelchair denotes all the different types of disabilities from the obvious to the hidden

I can now reveal that I made the final cut and this picture is now in a touring exhibition around wales. Below is the Exhibition info

effaith: Disability Arts Cymru National Touring Exhibition (2025–

26)

Launch: Friday 6 February, 6pm, Galeri Caernarfon

BSL Tour Galeri: 28/03/26 (time TBC)

EFFaith is an exhibition showcasing disabled perspectives on one of the

most urgent issues of our time: the climate crisis. Following an open call,

selected disabled, d/Deaf and neurodivergent artists have responded to

themes of nature, landscape and climate justice through the lens of

disability.

The exhibition also showcases two commissions created as part of the

Eaith project, one in partnership with Amgueddfa Cymru by Kathryn

Ashill and one in partnership with Corsydd Calon Môn by Catherine

Taylor Parry.

The commission with Amgueddfa Cymru is supported through CELF, the

national contemporary art gallery of Wales initiative that fosters

pathways for communities to engage with Wales’ art collection. This

commission created an opportunity for the artist to respond to the Eaith

theme and the National Collection, with potential for acquisition of the

artwork by Amgueddfa Cymru. Kathryn Ashill was awarded this

commission and has created work exploring the disabled body and its

relationship to natural bodies of water.

Corsydd Calon Môn’s commission opportunity highlights both the

uniqueness and vulnerability of the Anglesey fens. Corsydd Calon Môn is

a collaborative project that aims to secure the future of the Anglesey

Fens and celebrate their rich history. The project raises awareness of the

importance of the fens for both people and nature, with this rare habitat

playing a vital role in *ghting climate change. Catherine Taylor Parry was

awarded the commission and has created work responding

richness of the environment and re1ecting on the fen as a natural record

of time.
